Frequently Asked Questions

Q.What are the regulations and permit requirements?
A.Each municipality has different regulations and permits requirements concerning dumpsters placed on private property, streets or any other public right of way. Contact your local municipality and they will provide you with the regulations and costs to purchase any necessary permits. Purple Cow Dumpsters is not responsible for obtaining proper permits.
Q.Who might need to rent a dumpster?
A.Virtually anyone! The majority of our customers are DIY homeowners, all kinds of businesses, real estate companies, organizations and many small to mid-sized contractors. The list doesn’t stop there, though—we have worked with major contractors in charge of large industrial construction sites, too! The question might better be stated as, Who doesn’t need a dumpster at least once in their life?
Q.Can I put the dumpster on the street?
A.Regulations and permit requirements differ on where you can and can’t place a dumpster and it varies from city to city. Your local municipality can provide you with the requirements for any needed permits. Purple Cow Dumpsters is not responsible for obtaining proper permits.
Q.How high can I load my dumpster?
A.When picking up the dumpster, a tarp will be secured over the load to contain its contents during transport. Please do not load materials above the dumpster’s top rails as it will interfere with the tarp. Spread the materials as evenly as possible to flatten the load and distribute the weight evenly. If the dumpster cannot be safely transported due to being improperly loaded, you will have to unload it to a safe level before it can be removed. This could mean additional charges.
Q.What can NOT be placed in the dumpster?
A.Tires, Batteries, Paint, Chemicals, Biohazardous waste/materials, Appliances, Propane tanks. Alternative arrangements can be made for appliances, and materials such as rock, dirt, and concrete. (See also, What kind of debris do you dispose of?)
